This Lord of the Rings mythology guide is a slight improvement over its Game of Thrones counterpart, covering both books and films, but it still left a bad taste as an introduction to the universe. Not recommended unless you can get it for free.
I was unfamiliar with the mythology of The Lord of the Rings—much to my shame, I haven’t read the books, and I only know about it from the movies, and even that is barely. This book has the same problems as its Game of Thrones counterpart. However, I’m happy to say that this author isn’t as obsessed with Greek mythology as the one who wrote the Game of Thrones book.
It gives you more information about The Lord of the Rings universe and does a better job than its Game of Thrones counterpart. It also talks about both the books and the movies.
I fear that since this was my first real introduction to The Lord of the Rings universe, it left a bad taste in my mouth—something I must rectify by reading the books as soon as possible to cleanse my palate.
Do not buy this book. I do not recommend it. The only time this book might be a good investment is if you get it for free or pirate it. THEN—and only then—it might be a worthwhile investment of your time. Even if you pirate it, after finishing this book, you might still feel ripped off.
